A better lawn starts with better turf

Sydney-grown turf for real backyards

Your lawn has a big job. It has to handle bare feet, backyard games, pets, hot afternoons and the everyday mess of family life. It also has to suit the light, soil and space you actually have.

Demarco Sydney Turf grows two proven choices for Greater Sydney homes: Kikuyu and Sir Walter Buffalo. We keep the range simple so we can help you make a better decision—not leave you scrolling through a catalogue of grasses that all sound the same.

We grow better turf, so you can grow a better lawn

A new lawn does not begin when the rolls reach your driveway. It begins in the paddock.

Better farming makes better lawns. For Demarco, that means treating turf as a living crop and paying attention to the ground it grows in—not simply chasing a green surface on harvest day. The result we work towards is straightforward: healthy turf with the strength to make the move from our farm to your home and establish well when the site and aftercare are right.

The benefit to you is not farming jargon. It is turf grown with its next job in mind: becoming your lawn.

Two grasses. One clearer choice.

Sydney backyards vary too much for one grass to be best everywhere. That is why the first question is not “Which turf is most popular?” It is “What will work in this yard?”

Kikuyu turf

Kikuyu is the practical worker for bright, active lawns. In strong sun and warm growing weather, it grows vigorously and can repair wear quickly. That makes it a natural starting point for busy family yards, dogs, backyard sport and larger open areas.

Its strength is also its trade-off. Kikuyu needs regular mowing and firm edging while it is growing strongly. Choose it when you want an energetic lawn and are comfortable keeping that energy under control.

Sir Walter Buffalo turf

Sir Walter Buffalo is a broad, soft-leaf lawn suited to homes with a mix of sun and shade. It is generally easier to contain than Kikuyu and gives a full, comfortable surface for ordinary family use.

It still needs useful light, sound soil and time to recover from wear. “Shade tolerant” does not mean it can thrive in a dark side passage or beneath permanent cover. Choose it when mixed light and a less aggressive growth habit matter more than the fastest possible repair.

Still deciding?

If your yard is sunny and busy, start with Kikuyu. If it has moving shade and you want less aggressive growth, start with Sir Walter. Then check the soil, drainage and the way traffic moves through the space.

Turf for real Sydney backyards

Greater Sydney is not one growing condition. A backyard near the coast can behave differently from a new-estate lawn in the southwest or a colder, frost-prone pocket farther inland. Even two homes in the same street can have different shade, fill and drainage.

Southwest Sydney is our local heartland. We understand the compact yards, warm brick, Colorbond boundaries, young gardens and hard-working family lawns common across the area. We also supply across Greater Sydney, subject to confirmed delivery coverage.

We will not pretend a postcode chooses your grass. The useful details are closer to home:

  • How much direct sun reaches the lawn, especially in winter?
  • Will children, dogs or regular foot traffic use it hard?
  • Does water drain away, or sit after rain?
  • How often are you honestly willing to mow and edge?
  • Is access straightforward for delivery and laying?

Those answers help turn “I need turf” into a lawn choice that makes sense.

From a bare yard to a lawn you can use

1. Show us the yard

Send your postcode, measurements and a few photos. Include the lawn at different times of day if shade is a concern.

2. Choose the better fit

We will help you compare Kikuyu and Sir Walter against the conditions and the way your household will use the lawn.

3. Plan the quantity and timing

Measure carefully, confirm access and prepare the ground before the turf arrives. Fresh turf should not be left waiting while the site is still being levelled.

4. Give it a proper start

Lay promptly and follow the approved establishment instructions. The first days matter: roots need close contact with prepared soil and moisture must be managed carefully.

Measure once. Order with confidence.

Break the lawn into simple rectangles, measure each section and add the areas together. For curves and irregular spaces, send a sketch or photos with the measurements. We can help confirm the order quantity before the delivery is booked.

Do not guess from the block size or order an arbitrary percentage “just in case”. Layout, cuts and the shape of the yard affect the final quantity.

Better turf is the beginning

The variety matters. So do the soil beneath it, the way it is laid and the care it receives while roots establish. No turf can solve deep shade, waterlogging, compacted building fill or a traffic bottleneck on its own.

That is not a reason to make the decision complicated. It is a reason to get the basics right: choose for the real yard, prepare the ground, plan the delivery and be ready to water.

When those pieces come together, fresh turf becomes more than an instant patch of green. It becomes the place where the backyard starts to feel finished.

Home FAQs

What turf does Demarco Sydney Turf supply?

Demarco supplies Kikuyu and Sir Walter Buffalo.

Do you supply turf across Sydney?

Yes. Demarco supplies turf across Sydney, with final availability and delivery confirmed for your postcode in the quote.

How do I know which turf to choose?

Compare the lawn’s sun and shade, expected wear, maintenance needs and how the yard will be used. Compare Kikuyu and Sir Walter.

Start with sunlight and use. Strong sun plus heavy activity usually points towards Kikuyu. Moving shade and a preference for easier containment usually point towards Sir Walter. Soil, drainage and maintenance habits can change the answer, so send photos and measurements if you are unsure.

How much turf do I need?

Measure the length and width of each lawn section in metres, calculate each area and add them together. Curves, narrow strips and complex cuts need a closer look. Use the measurement guide or send us a sketch before ordering.

Does Demarco install turf?

You can buy turf directly from Demarco and request optional laying as a quoted extra. Preparation, excavation and other site work are not included unless specifically confirmed in the quote.
